Indian Summer

Summer here has been so crazy this year that to be totally honest I don't think it actually arrived until September. We had rain and rain and very chilly days, the weather never really got up past 20C and when it did it didn't stay very long. A few days at best and it would be chilly again.
This is the typical summer photo...sitting in the rain. The beginning of August instead of camping we were sitting with our jackets on freezing our wet butts off :( We took a drive out to the local provincial park at the beginning of August and the leaves were already changing colours because it had been so cold.
Then it was the few days before the kids were supposed to start back to school when the weather finally got warm and stayed that way. Days in a row it was 30C+, it was the summer we were hoping for but it was fall...too late for those temperatures.

Living in the northern part of the country we don't have a lot of time for any season other than winter so we hope that the other seasons last as long as they possibly can. Indian summer can be a very nice change from the weather that you know is coming...but that is the problem you know that when it ends winter is just around the corner. When the temperatures drop down to 0C in the mornings you know that it won't be long until you are waking up with frost on the windows and needing your winter jacket. And then it won't be long after that until the temperatures are -15C and you are freezing your butt off. Indian summer brings mixed emotions for me, I love the warmth it brings because it isn't as hot and humid as the summer days, there is always a nice little breeze no matter how high the temperatures go. They are beautiful days that you can enjoy with your family...the problem is that they come after the kids have returned to school, the husband is at work and you are home alone to enjoy the sunshine...okay that isn't as bad as it sounds :) This is a bit annoying because we didn't get these beautiful days during the summer, when you had planned on taking the kids to the lake, or out camping or to the amusement park...not you got them now when it is too late to do anything.

I love the sunshine and will take everyday...although I could never live where the sun shined all the time and the temperatures in the summer were unbearably hot...I love the last few days of summer that show up just when you think you are never going to get a decent summer and ease you into the long months of winter. I believe today is the first day of fall (21 Sept) so I guess those summer days will be fading very fast, as October approaches so does the snow and the cold :(

love that pic with the umbrella! Seems to me, we didn't get a very hot summer either (cept for a few weeks here and there) And it was actually pretty much the warmest some weeks in September. Hope you have a nice comfy fall!
