Our community has a Volunteer appreciate dinner once a year, and at this time they hand out the "Leaders of Tomorrow Awards". The leaders of tomorrow is a program to recognize the outstanding contributions of youth in our town to the community, through volunteer work. The “Leaders of Tomorrow” program also focuses attention on creating positive leaders for the future. There are six awards handed out to youth in our community every year...one for K-Grad 1; Grade 2-3; Grade 4, 5, 6; Grade 7, 8, 9; Grade 10, 11, 12; and group. This is quite an honor...although our town is small (12, 000 people or so) to be chosen for this award out of all the kids in town really says something about you...
My daughter, Ariel and three of her classmates have been part of a group that goes around to the schools in the area talking about Relational Aggression. This group was started after one of the students, Lehla decided that they should make a presentation of a class assignment. After the school councellor saw this presentation she decided they should present it to other students since it was so good. So for the past three years Ariel, Lehla, Kim and Dylan have gone to schools presenting this to students of all ages...I haven't seen the presentation but I have a DVD that I am going to watch :) The presentation is basically telling kids that they shouldn't bully people in a way that damages their relationships with other people.
Last night these 4 kids in the ninth grade won the Leaders of Tomorrow Award for the group of the year.

Congrats to your daughter on her award!
Girl, you absolutely kill me, really you do. Okay, so I've read some of your blogs about some of your bad decision making in the past, etc.... But girl the proof is in the pudding.
Your child works, does well in school, and volunteers! Do you know how hard it is for teenagers to want to volunteer? You are her mom, you are a great example, and she is a great kid.
Thanks for trying to do right by your children.
Congrats to your child and to you.
