Most people are patiently awaiting the end of the crazy winter we have had this year but some of us are starting to get impatient. I don't mind winter, growing up in Canada winter is a major part of the year. We also got lots of snow and it has always been accompanied by snow. I have spent many days shoveling out my car so I could get to where ever I wanted to try and go that day. I have been very fortunate to miss all the really bad winter storms. I have not lived in a storm where we have lost power for days or been snowed in so long that you wonder if you are going to ever get out, or at least not that I can recall. I lived in Southern Alberta where the Chinook winds melted all the snow and you bounced between spring, winter and fall conditions all winter...but this winter has been a crazy one.
Living farther North than I have before winter here is cold and snowy and other than when it is really cold I don't mind the winter, but this year has been very different. We usually get cold around November and it stays that way until April. The temperatures drop down to -20C and rarely come above that again until about late March. We have the rare beautiful day at -8 or so but as I said those are rare. But this winter the temperatures have bounced all over the place on day you are out shoveling the driveway in your sweatshirt enjoying the beautiful day and the next you are praying you don't have to go anywhere because the roads are covered in snow "again" and the temperatures are freezing cold. We have inches of ice and compacted snow in our driveway from the melting and freezing process. My son and I have spent many hours out scrapping our two car width driveway for it to snow the next day and have to start all over.
I am really waiting for winter to be over, but I am worried about where all this snow is going to go when it melts. We are running out of room when we shovel after all you can only pile the mound of snow so high before it starts falling back into the driveway and right now it is up to about 5 feet in parts. But I am worried about the amounts of snow that have filled our boat and trailer in the yard, the amounts of snow on the roof of our house, or shed...and this is why.
This is the shed my husband bought and put together in the summer/fall...we didn't have enough time to put our stuff in it before winter came...so it is an empty shed...well if you take the snow out :) We have a ton of stuff that is supposed to go in the shed as soon as we can get through to put stuff in it, I guess now we have to spend another thousand dollars and buy a new one :(
So as you can see as much as I want winter to be over I dread what spring has in store for us.
