Weekly Roundup

I was surfing the net today looking for inspiration to finish off my great niece's baby book and a few other things when I stumbled upon something I thought was interesting.  Katie has an idea on her blog about monthly round ups...now I thought a month was a long time period and have decided to do weekly round ups...check it out here.

March 8-15/09
This was a crazy week so it will be a long roundup.
Sunday my husband left for Edmonton as he was flying out early in the morning for Montreal on a business trip.  Since we set our clocks ahead one hour the morning seemed to fly by and by 2 pm he was off.  Of course since we live in the frozen North the weather had become miserable and he was driving through some pretty ugly road conditions on the way.

Monday was my niece Chantel's 13th birthday.  I called her on Saturday during her surprise party to see if her package had arrived and wish her a happy birthday so I didn't call again today.  We were invited to the party on the weekend but since my husband was living on Sunday we wouldn't have been able to drive all the way down there and be back for his flight.  I bought her the book "TwiLight" by Stephani Meyer and a J14 magazine...what all teenage girls seem to want right now especially since the book came with a poster.  Both Nathan and Ariel slept in for school...Nathan had a headache because he hadn't slept and Ariel just slept in...teenagers?

I was preschool helper today.  Mrs.Slade was away as her daughter Jana was in the musical festival and she was there with her so I was there to take Laurel's place.  It was a pretty good day the kids were a little rambunctious but not as bad as I knew they could be.  I think Laurel has a lot more of an authorative tone in her voice and the kids listen quicker than with Mrs. Slade.  Anyway we had a good afternoon the kids made a whirly gig?? a mobile type thing made out of paper plates and couldn't play outside because it was too cold.

Today was -39C with windchills when the kids left for school.

Tuesday was Pathfinder night and as usual it was a stressful night.  My friend Justine came over and we went through the buckets of craft stuff we have for Pathfinders and went and purchased some other things so that we could have craft night as my original plan of Sing Star night had been put on hold since one girl couldn't come and another had a sore throat...I only have 4 girls.  At 6:20pm I recieved an email that one of the girls might not be coming, and it was too late to cancel as the meeting starts at 6:30pm.  I ended up with two girls at the meeting, so we did origami and it was interesting.  Not a very productive meeting but a fun one.  Earlier in the day my friend Justine had helped me out with my dog, he was giving off a huge odor around the house and due to allergies I can't bathe him, so she came over to bathe him...it was not pretty and she said he needed to see the vet.

Today was -35C when the kids left for school.

Wednesday this day started the interesting week.  I had not slept well all week as I don't usually when my husband is away but the dog had been whining and crying all night and barking to go outside every few hours.  I called the vets office and the soonest I could get in was 5pm Thursday.  When speaking to Justine she said she would try and get me in at her vet's office, and made an appointment for 1:45pm Thursday.  The smell coming off my dog was so disgusting that I couldn't stand to be in the same room as him, I was gagging just to be near him.

I was preschool helper again today...I know crazy...today was Connor's leader day and since I couldn't attend on his last leader day I had promised him I could participate in this one, and I had told him this before Mrs. Slade asked me to help out on Monday.  Anyway we had a pretty good day except that the kids were totally crazy today, it was a rough afternoon constantly reminding them of the rules and trying to seperate those that just couldn't seem to get along.  Connor took mini bagel peperoni pizzas and carrot sticks for snack, a strange combination I admit but he is 4 and he knows what he likes.  The craft was a letter "f" made with feathers.  And we played a new game and sang a new song...The song was so funny I had to laugh myself it was "I was swallowed by a nile crocodile".  The game was a hide and seek game with everyone's shoes and it is amazing how silly 4 year olds thing little things like that are.  Ariel didn't go to school again today...which was handy as I got her to watch Connor so I could sleep a bit before school.

Thursday was another rough day as the dog was up every half an hour on the half hour last night and I ended up baracading him into the downstairs living room and hoping he didn't poop anywhere that would be difficult to clean up and went to bed at 4am.  Connor was awake at 5:30am because his nose was stuffed up.  We drove to take Ollie (the dog) to the vet's in Bonnyville to see Dr. Agarazar, he was great with Ollie and informed us that he had blocked anal glands and released those telling us the smell would go away soon, and that he had some issues with his stomach but they couldn't really be sure what was causing it.  They would start by putting him on some meds and hope that would clear it up and if not then they would have to dig deeper.  Poor Ollie was in a lot of pain and ended up with a cone on his head...which we aren't even sure if he needs because he is so "round" we don't know if he can reach his butt.

I took Ariel to the book fair at her school today, it was supposed to be Parent Teacher Interviews but I guess they were only on Wednesday this time and since Ariel never went to school we were unaware so we missed them.  I didn't go to Nathan's as the lines are so long and you would spend hours waiting to talk to his teachers, we stopped going to them a couple of years back when we got tired of hearing the same old thing from every teacher..."Nathan is an exceptional bright boy with great potential but he doesn't apply himself and it shows in his grades, there is no reason for Nathan to be failing other than that he doesn't do the work required of him."  I knew this time would be different as Nathan made a new year's resolution he was going to go out with a bang and that his final semester was going to be the best grades possible, so we have been telling him from the 9th grade that he is smart and if he just did his homework he would do very well and he ignored us...now in his second year of grade 12 he finally decides to do this and is pulling in a 80% average...if he had just done that in grade 9???  Anyway at the book fair I got the kids some books and had a nice chat with the libraian Mrs. Provost I will miss her a lot next year when all my kids are gone to different schools as she is a wonderful woman.

Today's high was +8C, starting out at -22C.

Friday today was a no school day in lue of the parent teacher interviews taking place last night.  Connor still had preschool though but I was not helper today...thank God I don't think I could have handled another day.  I took Nathan for a hair cut and I will post some after shoots as soon as he lets me take them.  He is very much like me on that one he hates having his picture taken but later regrets not having the picture to show off.  Hopefully I can convince him today...or maybe get his girlfriend to do it :)  Ariel and I had it out again tonight as she wanted to go spend the night at her friend's and since this was such a rough week and Connor was up at 6am again today I was exhausted and was going to bed early.  I didn't want to drive anywhere I just wanted to crash...she hid in her room mad at me again.

Temperature dropped back down to -22C with wind chills.
Saturday Christopher comes home today.  I was lying down when he called to say that he landed in Edmonton an hour later than he was supposed to, he sent me a text message at 12pm telling me he was getting his luggage and I never heard from him again until he got home six hours later.  I was starting to get very worried as it was snowing hard here and I was worried about him traveling in these winter conditions.  He said that he had left his cell phone on in his bag on the airplane and the battery died so he couldn't call me to tell me how bad the roads were.  He said that at points it was total white outs and that he was driving 50 kms per hour at certain spots.  I was really worried when he got home, but very glad to see him.  He brought me some cool gifts a matching shot glass and beer mug from Sagenay, Quebec they are beautiful...I don't drink but I collect shot glasses and the beer mug is for my water machine...I drink a lot of water.  He also brought me one of those nesting toys the ones where the smaller lady is inside the bigger one and so on...well it was Pooh Bear with Eeyore, Rabbit, Piglet and Roo inside...it is hand crafted and very cool.

Temperature back down to -25 with windchills and heavy snow.

Sunday today was a pretty quiet day...another day of snow.  We just hung out around the house not wanting to go anywhere in the weather.  Brittany returned from her mother's after being gone 10 days, and as usual she was sick and exhausted...enough said on that one.

Temperatures averaging -21 with windchills.

Well this was a crazy week, thankfully they are not all like this one.

Love the idea of a weekly round up but YIKES! Talk about wicked cold weather!

My, what a week you had, since I live alone now my weeks are about the same from week to week. I miss the hustle and bustle of kids and a hubby running in and out.
I like the "round up" idea.
Hugs~~~~Leslie
