My husband has a friend that used to live here in town but has since moved away, every May long weekend his family goes camping at Tucker Lake. Tucker Lake is kind of a half way point for most of them to travel and they come from Southern Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan to meet up for this once a year camping trip. Every year they invited my husband to come out and join them.

Well in 2006 we decided to join them. I have to admit it was a different experience for me. First of all I have never lived anywhere that it was warm enough to go camping on the May long weekend...for those of you who aren't Canadian I will explain. The May long weekend or commonly referred to as the 24 weekend is the the weekend closest to May 24th, Queen Victoria of England's birthday. Now Alberta is pretty far North and we are almost 3/4s of the way up the province so at the end of May it is still pretty chilly. Most years we have rain, cool temperatures and some times even snow on this weekend. I haven't camped in a tent since 1994-5 and sleeping on the cool, damp ground on an air mattress makes me feel 100 years old to start with but when the temperatures are so cool that you have to wear your winter coat to bed you wake up feeling even older :(
Anyway Connor went on his first camping trip when he was 4 months old and loves being outdoors. Now at 5 he is always asking if we can go camping. Playing in the dirt and hanging out around the fire is something he loves to do. In this picture he is sitting on the edge of the tent, the spot where you usually put your shoes before stepping into the tent, it was pretty much the only part of the ground that wasn't wet. He was driving his trucks up and down the tent. I am sure he was the only one who didn't care that it was cold and wet. He was lost in the adventure of camping and didn't really care about the weather. He played football with the older kids, walked around in puddles and just had a blast. We have gone out to this camp a couple of times since this picture was taken and he has a blast every year.

It is hard to believe looking at this photo how much he has grown. So many things are still the same, he still loves camping and playing in the dirt. He still has those adorable curls and dimples but he is so much bigger now :(
